"Skullgard" miner's helmet of Ben Stewart
Description:
Skullgard helmet. Maroon colored hard cap with a leather attachment on the front to hold a lamp. Six ventilation holes drilled through the crown of the cap, three on each side. Inside is a hammock style, adjustable headband and suspension system. Inside there is a manufacturers label adhered to the very crown of the cap's bowl, it reads: M—S—A SKULLGARD, PROTECTIVE CAP TYPE B, Size 7 1/4, Patent No's 1,835,883, 1, 875,143.
Notes:
Loan L85.09 donated to Museum during loan renewals in 2005. Helmet was worn by donor's father, Benjamin D. Stewart, as Territorial Mine Inspector throughout Alaska.

Taken off exhibit in the mining gallery, Oct 2007.
