Pocket carbide container
Description:
Carbide in a sealed tin container.

Container is painted, top stripe is blue and bottom strip is blue, the center stripe is yellow. The top of the container is crimped down on to the rest of the can. At the proper left of the top panel is a circular depression. Writing on the front of the can says: "NUMBER 77 FULL SHIFT POCKET CARBIDE CONTAINER 16 1/2 CANDLE POWER FOR COAL MINERS LEVER FEED NO MATCHES REQUIRED TO LIGHT THE NUMBER 85 "MATCHLESS" JUSTRITE." The bottom of the can is stamped : "PAT APPLIED FOR" There is an image of a carbide miners lamp in the center of the can.

Writing on the back of the can says: "NUMBER 77 FULL SHIFT POCKET CARBIDE CONTAINER 18 1/2 CANDLE POWER FOR METAL MINERS LEVER FEED "JUSTRITE" NO. 93 ANACONDA SPECIAL NO.93 BURNS 5 HOURS ON ONE CHARGE."

"Anaconda Special No. 93" printed on the reverse may refer to the anaconda copper mine in Montana. —Field, Addison (AEF)
