Description:
Pair of steamed and bent oak frame trail snowshoes. 2 oak cross pieces divide shoes into thirds. Toe and heel has twisted babiche or sinew mesh secured through holes in frame and cross pieces. Center has wider babiches pieces forming mesh wrapping frame and cross pieces. Tanned leather form and straps to hold boot woven onto mesh in center. Bentwood frame secured together at heel with 2 brass brads. Varnished overall. Commercially made. Embossed and stained blue letters on top of right front frame and numbers stamped near held (end) of each frame.
Inscription: "ALASKA COASTAL AIRLINES" on right front frame
"12 x 42" "21217" near heels
Notes:
Ron Clare was a mechanic for ACA. Snowshoes were used as survival gear by pilots and supplied to them by the airlines.
