Tlingit Wooden Halibut Float, bird

Description:
Hand carved wooden Tlingit halibut float. One end tapered to duck head, other end tapered to carved knob. Neck of knob in—cut suitable for holding line on float, probably spruce. "M" whittled into back of duck. 0.5 inch diameter ring carved into end of knob. Wood grain runs with length of float.
Notes:
Collect & preserved by Thomas s. Parke; likely beach combed somewhere in SOUTHEAST Alaska; identified as halibut hook by Steve Henrikson, ASM.
