Tlingit Halibut Hook, No Totemic Carving

Description:
Tlingit halibut hook with iron and short length of cotton "halibut cord". Upper float side carved as simple "duck bill". Lower arm surrounded by five wood wedges tied with cotton twine. Iron barb also lashed to lower arm with thin "halibut cord". Carved upper and lower halves of hook are bound together in two places with cotton "halibut cord". Short length of "halibut cord" threaded through hole drilled in center.

Collected & preserved by Thomas S. Parke. Likely beach combed in northern SOUTHEAST Alaska. See 99.21.007 halibut float from same collection.
