Respirator / Self Rescuer
The respirator is sealed, can only be opened upon using it. The case is a gray metal. It is a column. The lid is larger then the base. And has a indent in the middle for the metal strap that connects it to the base and keeps it sealed shut. On the top of the case is a red lever. The right side is slanted down. On the back there is a device to attach the case to a belt. On top says "MSA". On right side is says "Weir" in blue pen. On the left side it says "Wier" in black pen. On the front there is a green sticker that says "10" and lower down a white sticker says "PERMISSIBLE RESPIRATOR / FOR / SELF RESCUE / MSA / NIOSH—MSHA APPROVED / APPROVAL LABEL ON BACK / 995625" There is an approval label on the back. On the bottom it says " W65 SELF RESFUER / CD6344 / 1034 / DATE PUT IN SERVICE / 6—4—84 / MADE IN WEST GERMANY"

Notes:
Worn on the belt when going into an old mine or cave, as a safety precaution against running out of oxygen. Used for self rescue from carbon monoxide. It is a safety device used by field geologists who were going into a place where the supply of oxygen was sporadic.
