Description:
Josephine Crumrine—like style oil portrait of Native (Eskimo / Tlingit(?) woman wearing fur ruffed parka. Portrait painted on dark brown Sitka black tail(?) tanned skin. Artist unknown. "JUNEAU, ALASKA" written on bottom of skin. Skin appears to have been cut from local deer based on size, shape and lack of warble fly scars. Outer edge of skin trimmed with approximately 0.5 inch thick dark brown line. Outer line and inscription may be burned into leather(?) Portrait on sueded side of skin.
Notes:
Collected by Thomas S. Parke though was found by Mary Ann Parke in box of leather scrap materials. May have been painted as tourism souvenir and later simply kept for leather material.
