Description:
Painted black metal box with two metal braces with holes at either end of back; three metal projections on bottom, four—footed large metal box screwed by one leg to top, and hinged door front. Two cloth—wrapped wires exit on right side. Red rubber seal inside door. Contains old telephone set which consists of small crank with brass knob, attached mouthpiece, and earpiece on cloth—wrapped 14—inch—long wire, with brass earpiece holder. Weighs about 50 lbs.
Inscription: "Stromberg — Carlson Tel. M'fg Co. / Rochester, N.Y. / U.S.A." in raised letters.
Notes:
Used in the tunnels at the Alaska Juneau Gold Mining Company's Mine in Juneau, Alaska. Mr. Young died in 1987.
