Description:
Rectangular darkly varnished oak box with plaque screwed on front. Hinged lid opens upon removal of screw. 12—volt Wayne Bell Trans battery inside plus miscellaneous wires and spark box. Nickel(?)—plated brass lighter consists of cylinder hinged to standards, soldered to plate screwed to lid. Screw—in cap for gasoline container is missing. Appears to have originally been battery—powered, modified to electricity with brown cord and plug. Copper wire is projecting from black porcelain spark cap at top. Printed instruction on bottom; embossed printing on battery inside. Inscription on brass plaque.
Inscription: "MIDLAND JUMP START CIGAR LIGHTER U.S. PATENT JULY 20, 1909 CANADIAN PATENT DECEMBER 6, 1910 MADE BY MIDLAND SUPPLY COMPANY DAVENPORT, IOWA MODEL L NO. 05S26"
Notes:
Acquired by donor's deceased husband, Olav Lilligraven. Probably associated with 86.09.02 & 04. Mrs. Lilligraven said her husband probably picked it up downtown as he liked old things.
