Description:
Aluminum sign painted with black and yellow paint. Sign reads: "FALLOUT SHELTER". International symbol for radiation (three yellow triangles connected at one angle and spaced equidistant on black circle) is focus of sign. Sign also reads: "Capacity 715". At bottom in small print "DOD FS NO 1 NOT TO BE REPRODUCED OR USED WITHOUT DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE PERMISSION". Back is plain aluminum and slightly corroded. Four pieces of old double—stick tape on back.
Notes:
Found in cabin built around 1900 by Winn family, purchased by Ted Merrell about 1970. Shelter had 715 capacity. Possibly for Marie Drake, as it was designated fallout shelter.
