Description:
Wood and metal pump, probably used as a bilge pump. Handmade of four lengths of 2.5 inches by 0.5 inches lumber nailed together to create box shape with interior shaft. Top end has "U"—shaped metal spout with opening to allow wood plunger to slide up and down shaft. Plunger is made of 1.5 inches by 0.625 inches lumber with 3.0 inches length of 0.875 inches dowel screwed at top for handle; bottom of plunger is wrapped with chamois. Bottom is covered with three 0.5 inches by 2.0 inches pieces of lumber with two pre—drilled holes. Side view of pump shows box tapers, widens at bottom. Sides have been varnished.
