Description:
A) U.S. Coast Guard—approved self—igniting copper "Save—U—Lite". Filled with carbide. Copper cannister with 1.125—inch brass ring on top and bracket with small nozzle on bottom. Soldered bracket, side, and seams.
Inscription: On top of cannister: "TOP/1957"
On side of cannister: "SAVE—U—LITE/SELF IGNITING WATERLIGHT/THE AUTOMATIC LIGHT CO./MFRS. & PATENTEES/BALTIMORE, MD/APPROVED BY/U.S. SUPERVISING INSPECTORS/160.012—3—1"
B) Instruction/advertisement sheet on "Save—U—Lite". Red and black print on white 8.5—inch by 11—inch sheet.
C) Stowage instructions sheet for "Save—U—Lite". White 8.5—inch by 11—inch sheet with black print. 1969.
Correspondence to acquire additional canisters between T.S. Parke and Automatic Lite Company.
Notes:
Used as a U.S. Coast Guard required safety light on both life rings and life rafts on the Parke family "small—passenger vessels" the c/v Barbara V (into the 1960's) and c/v TillerTramp (mid 1960's—1990's). Patent year 1950. Company's 47th year 1922—1969 stated on shipping sheet (B). (B) and (C) are instructions for stowage and use. See document file for copies of (B) & (C).
