Men's Green Canvas Navy Surplus Pocketed Bibbed Pants

Description:
Navy green, possibly waterproofed, cotton canvas bib—style, suspendered rainpants. Buttoned flap—covered by double flap that closes with two 0.75 inch buttons on lower end of flap. Drawstring closures at bottom of legs have 2 brass grommets on each leg for adjusting string. Adjustment straps either side of waist band on back of pants; straps 0.875 inch wide with sliding adjustable buckles. Suspenders of 1.25 inch wide cotton webbing riveted to back waistband. Suspenders cross and attach to top of bib with adjustable sliding ferrous buckle that attached to grommet—style metal buttons on top of bib. White cotton label sewn into back waist band, black block lettering "NAVY DEPARTMENT / CONTRACT N X S X 36468 / SIZE MEDIUM". Ink stamped "705 18" in 2 places on inside of bib.
Notes:
Belonged to Thomas S. Parke. Navy surplus (WWII) likely acquired and used in the '40s. He would have used pants for boating, fishing, hunting and other outdoor activities. Possibly used also as part of WWII civil defense activities.
