Description:
Brown rainproofed cotton duck sportsman's's hunting jacket. Brown corduroy upper collar. Four 1 inch diameter closing front. Gussetted, inset sleeves. Lots of large pockets: 7.75 inch by 6.5 inch flap covered pocket on left chest; smaller pocket inset on larger pocket; 4 large flap covered pocket along hem — 9.5 inch deep and extends between side seam around right and left jacket front. 2 interior pockets extend throughout interior of both left and right fronts and are accessed from center front of jacket; single large pocket extends throughout interior jacket back, accessed from two 0.375 inch buttoning flapped openings on side seams on either side of coat back. Sleeves lined with soft cotton duck. Brown 2 inch wide corduroy band faces sleeves cuffs. Sleeve cuffs coat with 0.625 inch diameter button — 2 spaced buttons allow side adjustment. Two 0.25 inch grommets set into each armpit gusset for ventilation. 2 labels sewn into back inside neckline: White label "46". Red and white embroidered label "UTICA DUXBAK CORP. / TRADE MARK / RAIN PROOF SPORTSMAN'S CLOTHING / UTICA, N.Y." Original buttons embossed top and bottom with "DUXBAK"
Notes:
Belonged to and worn by Thomas S. Parker. Jacket designed for bird hunting. Was originally used probably 1930s and 1940s for duck hunting and later 1950s — 1980s for working on boats in cold, wet and dirty conditions. Jacket still in use as "old work coat" in 1980s.
