Horizontal oil painting of shoreline of Auke Village site (Auke Bay Recreation Area) during daylight. Silhouette of canoe with two people and Point Louisa at right. two small wooden buildings, totem pole with three figures and drying rack with fish at left; canoe on beach in foreground lower left. Painted on 4 foot by 8 foot by .75 inch plywood sheet. Framed by 25 .025 inch by .75 inch dry molding cut with mitered corners and nailed to face of plywood. Frame and edges painted black; back of plywood painted white. On lower left corner of frame is 4.0 inch by 2.5 inch paper label, bordered by two blue lines — outer one wider. Paint of frame extend to painting along frame edge in several places. Paint of frame extends on painting along frame edge in several places. Painting surface varnished; drips and pigment "runs" in several areas.
On back: 2 screw eyes, 1 on either side 9 1/2" below top, heavy multistratified were attached to eyes w/ galvanized clamps. On face, 2 finger prints in paint & upper right center.

Frederick B. Harris is the son of William John Harris, who is the son of Richard & Kitty Harris. Fred & William were sign painters (See Harris family papers, University. Alaska Anchorage Library). Gift or bequest to Catholic Church from Mrs. George.
