Description:
Very ornate tea set, bisque, raised floral pattern, paint and gilt around edges, Nippon trademark, white glaze base. Inscription on pot, cups, sugar bowl, cream pitcher.
A — Teapot : broad, narrow at bottom, flares out to base, strainer built inside spout. Paint is dark blue, green, red, much gilt, raised beads.
B — Lid: Large flower (lily?) design, red, green, pink paint, raised beads, stream hole.
C—G — Cups: Five total, glazed outside, large floral pattern inside bowl, unglazed paint.
H—L — Saucers: Five total, bottom unglazed, top glazed, painted, floral gilt pattern.
M — Sugar bowl: Smaller than teapot but same shape and pattern, no spout.
N — Sugar lid: Same design as teapot lid, smaller.
O — Cream pitcher: Same design as teapot with addition of larger, flared tip and wide spout. Inside spout is gilt floral design.
Inscription: Hand Painted — Nippon
Notes:
This was a wedding gift to John & Marie Peterson, (married outside of Alaska in 1884). They used it in their home(s) here.
Nippon China made in the late 1800's; discontinued making before WWI.
