Description:
Scriber
Clear plastic scriber. Frame of the object is made of two pieces of clear plastic. The base is a triangular piece with brass feet attached to two corners. The feet pass through holes drilled into the plastic and are held on with a nut on the top. The second piece of plastic is roughly rectangular in shape; it is affixed perpendicularly to the base. There is a hole drilled directly through this piece at the very tip, through which a brass tip runs. The tip is affixed to the tool at the top by means of a threaded, knurled brass thumb screw. There is a second, finer tip piece inserted in the brass tip. This fine tip is held in place with a brass screw. On the underside of the tool is the number: "10" painted with orange paint. There is a manufactures sticker, silver on the bottom back.
Notes:
Used in making maps; with this tool a relatively inexperienced person can make accurate , sharp and consistent lines on a map or drawing. Used in conjunction with a scribing film that consists of a clear base of dimensionally stable polyester, covered by a a scribable coating. When the tip is run over the film, it leaves a line on the map/drawing beneath.
