Description:
Carved and painted in traditional colors of black, red, and blue—green. Ten figures include, top to bottom: Uncle Sam, Shark, Auklet, Thunderbird, Bear, Wolf, Sea Monster, Good Luck Woman, Spirit Man, and Berners Bay Mountain. Totem is 91" circumference at base. CBJ Property # 04594.
Notes:
Acquired by the Juneau Centennial Committee. The artist was assisted in carving by Steve Brown & in painting by Dorica Jackson, his wife. The pole commemorates the Woosh—Kee—Ton Eagle Clan, members of the Auk Tribe, Juneau's original inhabitants. The 10 figures represent elements in the tribe's history. The artist is Tlingit originally from Klukwan and lives in Ketchikan.
