Title:
Red Wooden Buoy with Ropes and "31D124 JUNEAU"
Description:
Barrel—shaped wooden buoy with metal strip around center, two metal strips each at top and bottom. Entire buoy is painted red, with the exception of the metal strips at top and bottom painted white reading "31D124 JUNEAU". Buoy is encircled by two rings of rope with handles or loops of rope tied between them on opposite sides. A thinner cordage is looped between the rings of rope in a zig zag fashion all around the buoy. Both ends are closed and have bungholes, but only one hole has a cork.
Notes:
Was previously loan L90.25.003 for the fishing and canning permanent exhibit, Putting Up the Pack, from 1991 to 2010. Donor June Hall writes "This buoy was left at our house on North Douglas when we moved in (1975). We bought the house form Bill Dixon, a fisherman, but I don't know if it was his."
