In lower left, two men in hats, one in dark, one in light coat, face viewer, paddling in stern of canoe. Behind them, two Tlingit canoes under sail, bows to viewer, traverse pale green water to right of steep, dark green, forested rise. In left pale gold mountains rise near grey and green foothills. Sky is blue at top but clouded and reflects gold of mountains near skyline. Wood frame. CBJ Property #04551

Notes:
Acquired by Juneau Centennial Committee. Depicts Taku Indians sailing dugout canoes up Taku River, circa 1880, to rendevous and trade with Atlin Indians of British Columbia. Trading site, about 80 miles upriver, now known as Canoe Landing, was at junction of Sloke and Nakina Rivers. Scene is at Canyon Island, two or three miles below the border between United States and Canada, about 50 miles from Juneau. See file.
