Pastel stippled watercolor of several buildings of large Treadwell mining complex in middle distance of painting. Mountain tops emerge from blue mist to background. Foreground is blue water painted in technique of small discreet color dots in various shades of blue. Mine buildings are on pilings. Pier extends from buildings at left across composition almost to right side; two boats are tied to end. Tall smokestack and tower extend from largest mine building. Colors muted, cool and predominantly blue.
Inside mat is grey, outside mat is cream. Wood frame w/ glass. CBJ Property #03318.
Inscription: "DAVID MARX 1979" in blue paint at lower right, w/ copyright symbol in blue paint.

Acquired by Juneau Centennial Committee. View north from Gastineau Channel of the Treadwell Gold Mining and Milling Complex at Douglas. This facility was dismantled after the 1917 flood of the Treadwell Mine. Mount Juneau is visible in upper right of painting. On the pier is the main location dock and warehouse. Supplies shipped from Seattle were unloaded and carried away by narrow gauge rail to various mine departments. Buildings to right of pier are the stamp mills which crushed gold ore and separated it from tailings.
Artist had left town by 1990.
