Description:
Circular disc relief carving on horizontally laminated planks of wood, 35.875—inch diameter. Main feature is two—headed bird; eagle and raven head in totemic style. In left wing of bird is scene with log cabin church; in right wing is scene of modern Juneau with view down Gastineau Channel and surrounding mountains. In tail is picture of miner's pick and gold pan. Inside 3.75 inch border at outer edge are "Juneau Alaska" & "1880" & "1980". Design is cut into wood to average depth of .5 inches. Plaque is hung from picture wire attached to brass fixtures. CBJ Property #00410.
Inscription: "1979 Betty M. Long Juneau Alaska" carved in back.
Notes:
Acquired by Juneau Centennial Committee. The 1980 Juneau Centennial logo was designed by Melinda Abrazado in 1978. The eagle and raven heads represent clans of the Tlingit Indians of northern Southeastern Alaska. The log cabin church was one of the first buildings in Juneau. Pick and gold pan represent gold mining industry of Juneau, Douglas and Treadwell in the 1880's.
