Woodblock print. In foreground in dark red ink are nine miners. Behind them on right are several mine buildings with dark red roofs. Mine buildings and mountains in background are printed in blue ink. Mountains in left background are over printed with yellow ochre and appear green. Inside mat is light blue—grey, outside mat is brown; narrow gold metal frame with glass. Property # 04554 Inscription: "Silverbow Basin, Perseverance Mine / 1/30 / Kate Boesser 1979" in pencil left to right.
Notes:
Acquired by Juneau Centennial Committee. Perseverance mine, discovered between 1882—85 by men from the U.S.S. Jamestown. Claims changed hands until 1930, when Col. James A. Sutherland bought the mine. It proved the richest mine after Treadwell. In 1935 an earthquake caused water to seep into the ore. The Perseverance stamps could not process wet ore so the mine was sold to A.J. Mining Co, which continued to operate until the 1940's.
