Brass carbide miners lamp, made in 2 parts screw together.
Base Tank: Cylindrical container for calcium carbide. Embossed on bottom: "MADE IN U.S.A. / AUTO—LITE patented." Red rubber grip embossed: "BUMPER GRIP pat'd U.S.A. 1790, 709 BRITISH 554, 676 / CANADA 310, 911" Brass pressed into octagonal pattern for 0.5 inch and then rounded. Black rubber washer fit over threaded male fitting.
Upper Tank: Waisted cylinder for water w/ hook, flows in and reflection. Top embossed "AUTO—LITE reg. U.S. PAT. OFFICE / UNIVERSAL LAMP CO. CHICAGO U.S.A." Water flow switch ball and arm which rotates over embossed calibrations set around circular top on….. Hinged lid (with air hole) for water container. Overlapped top soldered to outside of container which is knurled. Immediately below soldered line beneath water container, protrudes needle valve through which water is released into carbide. 2 regulator pieces fit over needle valve for adjusting gas flow to jet. On front of lamp, nickel plated parabolic reflection around flame jet.. On reflector is flint lighter on rear of lamp soldered hanging hook. Beneath hook is soldered brass wire — appears to be remains of another attachment.
