Description:
Jack. Large, heavy, upright, tapered rectangular shaped wooden rack—and—pinion jack.
Top is bolted to a square piece of metal that has raised lettering and large metal ring. There is slender curved handle on one side. Below lever near base is small metal ring. On opposite side is bolted vertical rectangular shaped piece of metal with serrated teeth and small vertical hook curving upward at base. Bottom of jack is banded by metal piece from which two metal "feet" protrude.
Inscription: "Dawson D PAT'D. May 29, 1882 (?) #211"
Notes:
Donor's father, Glen Oakes, was stockkeeper/wharfinger for A.J. Mine. Started at Treadwell 1913, then to A.J. 1916. Retired 1962. (Pat Oakes, daughter).

Often called a "Dawson," "Boker", or "Felling Jack" jacks of this type were used by loggers to move logs that were too large to be manhandled. Boker was a German maker.
