Description:
Two—story structure with yellow light shining from its 11 windows in foreground. In front, rock mound separated from steep cliff on right by plank bridge on trestles with railings, becoming dirt road leading to lower right. Water spills from structure onto rocky shore and into water on left. Large pipe feeds into building from under bridge. Power poles are left of structure and in left foreground. Behind structure, glacier fills middle third of painting and reflects pink glow. In distance, white snow—capped mountains also reflect pink glow. Sky and glacier are blue and suggests evening light. Notes:
Acquired by Juneau Centennial Committee. The Nugget Creek Powerhouse was completed in 1914. It was built at the base of a rock mound near the face of the Mendenhall Glacier. The powerhouse & bridge were demolished in the early 1960's.
