Commemorative USS Juneau Plate
Description:
Commemorative "USS Juneau" china plate.
Plate is cream color. There are two gold colored rings painted on the front of the plate. One is painted on the rim, the other surrounds the image at the center of the plate. The image at the center of the front of the plate is a photo of the USS Juneau beneath it are 4 gold stars and beneath that is blue ink is the following: "U.S.S. JUNEAU / CL—52." Printed on the reverse in blue ink is the following: "THE ANTI—AIRCRAFT CRUISER / USS JUNEAU CL—52 WAS COMMISSIONED / ON FEBRUARY 14, 1942 AND COMMANDED / BY CAPTAIN LYMAN K. SWENSEN. AFTER / FIGHTING IN THE NAVAL BATTLES OF SANTA / CRUZ AND GUADALCANAL THE CRUISER WAS / STRUCK BY AN ENEMY TORPEDO AND SANK ON / NOVEMBER 13, 1942. OUT OF A CREW OF OVER 700 MEN ONLY 10 SURVIVED. / 141/250."
