Atlantic Surf Clam (Spissula Solidissima)
Description:
Bivalves are ridged on exterior and smooth inside, symmetrical and regular in shape.
A — 4.5 inches by 1.5 inches complete pair, hinge still attached, brown exterior only 25 percent eroded.
B & C— 4.5 inches by 3.125 inches by .875 inches detached pair, brown exterior, very shiny white interior with yellow.
D — 5.25 inches by 2.125 inches by .5 inch prominent exterior ridges, exterior pinkish tan, interior dull with gold and orange coloration, prominent ledges.
E & F — 3 inches by 2.125 inches by .5 inch, golden tan on exterior, dull and shiny white interior with yellow on outside.

Donor's label reads: "RED — NECKED CLAM" — Spissula Alaskana. Found in moderately deep water; sand. length 4 or 5 inches. From Pearl Harbor Beach"
Wing says Spissula Alaskana was changed to Spissula solidissima. Common name used to be Pinkneck or surfclam.
