Dress is purplish rayon(?) suit pieced together with cotton pink floral fabric.
A — Jacket is purple rayon fabric lined with peach crepe. Front has 10 button closure with dark brown buttons and 2 semicircular breast pockets. Jacket has fold down collar and cuffed sleeves. Side has curved shaping seams. At neck is bow made from cotton floral fabric. Back middle bottom has 20 inch long pleated flounce attached.
B — Long skirt front: even weave rayon fabric with horizontal purple thread and vertical red thread. Seam runs down middle with waist 1 inch waistband and 4 pleats. Band has button closure with 2 hooks for adjustable waist size. Side has 12 inch red zipper. 8.5 inch from bottom horizontal seam from skirt being lengthened. Back: waistband same purple rayon but rest is pink, peach, green and white floral pattern. Back very loose with many pleats in middle of waistband, a 28 inch long bustle or pleated flounce is added.
Notes:
Costume worn by Lucy Lovelace, a character in "Hoochinoo & Hotcakes", melodrama written by Carol Eastaugh. In the 1970s and 1980s costume was loaned to Perseverance Theatre either by Carol or Connie Boochever. c. 1992—94, Theatre cleaned out their costumes and gave dress to JDCM for education. Identified as part of Hoochinoo and accessioned into permanent collection. Dress dry cleaned before put into storage.
