Description:
Very large oil on canvas painting of two large figures and a scene of a canal full of boats and a cityscape. The two figures loom in the foreground, the proper right figure is perched on a metalwork sphere and reaching behind him to pull a Chilkat robe around his nude body. The proper left figure is also seated on a metalwork sphere and had a Tlingit paddle with formline designs raised above his head. The canal reaches off into the distance between them, containing many Tlingit canoes. The land mass on the proper right has a traditional Tlingit village, while the shore to the proper left is a landscape of Venice, and a totem pole is being raised.
Notes:
This artwork was undertaken in response to an invitation to the Fourth Florence (Italy) Biennial of International Contemporary Art in 2003. It was exhibited there and subsequently in Anchorage, Palm Springs, and San Francisco.
