Description:
A — Brass ship's chronometer made by Frodsham & Son, London, and distributed by Max Liner Co. of Seattle. Circular brass chronometer set in varnished wood box with brass hinged lid, secured with brass lock. Each corner of box, bas, and lid has two brass corner reinforcements set into wood. Face has roman numerals I to XII with two additional smaller calibrated circles inside face. Inscribed on center of face in ink: "Frodsham and Son / Gracechurch St., London 5025". On front of box lid below key hole is bone insert.
B — Base is 12—inch square wood with four brass pins/screws.
C — 10 inches by 12 inches by 9.5 inches storage—traveling wood box used to hold chronometer box. Has hinged lid lined with very coarse brown felt.
Inscription: A — on face of box, brass plate: 'FRODSHAM & SON / 31 GRACECHURCH STRT. (Second "T" is above rest of letters) / LONDON"
Inside of lid, blue paper label: "MAX KUNER CO. / NAUTICAL AND SURVEYING INSTRUMENTS / CHRONOMETERS AND WATCHES / AGENTS U.S. GOVERNMENT CHARTS / 391.30 / 5 / 1926 / 804 FIRST AVENUE / SEATTLE"

On loan to museum from Juneau Public Library since 1988. Transferred to JDCM permanent collections. Approved by Carol McCabe, Feb, 1999. Used by Alaska Steamship Co. in 1960's & 1970's.
