Four—quart National "Presto" aluminum pressure cooker with plastic handles.
A) Cooker body — heavy cast with attached 6.5—inch handle.
B) Cooker cover — heavy cast with attached 6.5—inch handle; over—pressure plug and vent pipe firmly attached to cover, brass plate riveted to cover.
C) Indicator weight is cast aluminum with ferrous metal release loop.
D) Sealing ring is red—brown rubber gasket inserted in interior rim of cover.
E) Cooking rack 7.25—inches in diameter by .375— inch aluminum disk fits in bottom of cooker body.
F) Presto Cooker Recipe Book — 6.75 inches by 4.875 inches, paperback; 112 pages; copyright 1946.
Inscription brass plate: "REG. U.S. PATENT OFFICE NO. 2218188/NATIONAL/PRESTO/COOKER/MODEL—60/4 QT.—3.784 LITERS/NATIONAL PRESSURE COOKER CO EAU CLAIRE, WIS., U.S.A."

Used by Vera L. Parke for home cooking and canning (along with larger canners — see 2002.11.128) during 1940's—1960's. Recipe book copyright 1946. Patent number date is 1940. First saucepan—style pressure cookers made by National Pressure Cooker Co. in 1939 were given trade name "Presto". See document title.
Good. Well used and still usable. Light scratches and mars overall. Minor small corrosion spots on interior. Rubber gasket pliable and beginning to stiffen. Red rubber spot on interior rim of cover (canning gasket?). Book in new condition.
Cleaned by M.A. Parke with hot tap water and Joy dish soap prior to delivery to museum.
