Oil on canvas painting, framed. Painting shows a city street scene at earl morning. Buildings and cars line both sides of the street. There is a shillouette of a man and dog in the lower proper right corner. Both are looking up, possibly at the raven perched on a street lamp post located in the lower proper left corner. The background is a blue—ish gray mix of sky, clouds and mountains. The street is Franklin Street in downtown Juneau. The mountain in the background in Mount Juneau. On the proper left side of the painting many historic buildings are visible including: the Alaskan Hotel, Senate Building, the Alaska Steam Laundry/Emporium Building, the Guffey Building and the Theile Building. The back top corner of the Baranof Hotel is also visible. Artist's signature and date is in the lower proper left, written in black paint.

Frame is a double wood frame with concave belving and details. Wood is a marbling of dark and medium toned browns. White canvas and black wood "matting".

Back: there is a piece of foam core stapled to the back of the canvas, covering it. Canvas is held into frame with wooden brackets and staples. Hanging wire attached to edges of canvas.
Notes:
Arnie Weimer is a prolific artist that has not limited himself to any specific genre or medium. He has painted, drawn, carved, engraved, and sculpted. His paintings include oils, watercolors and acrylics and he has worked with wood, metals, stone and even snow. In a 2014 Capital City Weekly article, Weimer explained this variety by stating: "It's all the same fabric, to me. The more experience you have, the richer life is. You can bring more to one medium if you have experience with others." Weimer grew up in a large Minnesota family that included many artists. He received a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Cincinnati. Weimer states, "I have had an ongoing fifty year artistic dialogue with myself, and I must do art every day, it is my salvation, because I get bored so easily". He likens painting and drawing to, "looking at your own memory, with an intensity of observing what you are trying to express" as the benefit of the act.

Morning Light is an oil on canvas plein aire painting of Franklin Street in downtown Juneau. Weimer can frequently be seen around town painting and drawing outside and states that, "light is very important to me." He remembers seeing a Sydney Laurence painting of Mt. McKinley in the Baranof Hotel and being attracted to his illuminist style in portraying light. In Morning Light, Weimer is representing early morning light in Juneau and typical to Juneau, it looks like it may have or will rain. Franklin Street is one of the main thoroughfares linking homes and business in downtown Juneau. The street is lined with historic buildings and the painting depicts a handful of them, including: the Alaskan Hotel, Senate Building, the Alaska Steam Laundry/Emporium Building, the Guffey Building and the Theile Building.
