Whale Oil Tea Pot Miner's Lamp

Description:
Tin "Star" miner's lamp. Shaped like a flower watering can with over—sized spout. Tightly fitting, hinged lid. Lid has double thickness with small hole in center, spout has double thickness of metal (for insulation?). Opposite spout has hook soldered into holder over main seam of body. Base overlaps sides. All joints soldered. Shield engraved on side opposite hinge container:
*ST * AR * / GEOANTON/ MONOGAHELA / CITY / WASHINGTON CO. / PA"

Used latter part of 19th century. Used on leather miners helmet. Proceeded use of corbide miner's lamps. Per television show "Collectible Treasures" Feb. 7, 2000, Channel 62 in Juneau.
