Notes:
Origin: Midden on St. Lawrence Island. From ANAC Cache; Marie Olson used to work for them. Connects to ethical issues of subsistence archaeology...artifacts are removed from lands belonging to the tribes by Native people there in order to make a living. Exhibiting such things is thought to encourage the market.
In the 1970's, native craftsmen would come to Juneau and stay in the Prospector, selling items from their hotel. Word—of—mouth went out through local gift shops, and gift shops bought a lot this way.
