Small green metal box with a chart of 'natural sines' on outside. Small hole on top of box. Snaps shut. Top folds open (on hinges). On one side of inside there is a mirror, on the other there is a compass. Over the compass there is a black metal bar that folds out. The bar comes to a point and is hollow in the middle.

Used in virtually all aspects of field work by geologists, from navigation, to plotting the location of mineral deposits. Used to measure slope angles, direction, and strike and dip of rock formations. Can be relatively accurate for surveying small areas.
Notes:
This piece of equipment is probably one of the most important tools to a geologist in the field. It was used for everything from navigation, to plotting the location, incline, and thickness of geologic formations.
