Description:
Compass tripod.

Three legged tripod, painted black. Legs hook into a silver disk. On top of the disk is the head of the tripod. This is made of a black metal, in a 'u' shape. A small metal disk, to which the compass would be attached, is placed in the middle.

Used in field surveying throughout the state. It is deigned to hold a compass like the Brunton compass so that it could be used as a surveying instrument. The compass was placed on this tripod if a geologist or surveyor needed to get an accurate azimuth, such as in plotting points on a map.
