Description:
A — 15.25 inches by 6 inches by 3.5 inches black hard leather case. Case is wider at top than bottom. Opens at top with flap and can be closed by buckling leather strap into metal bucket. When lying on its side, a handle protrudes 1.5 inches from case and is 5 inches in length. Inside case has three different sections. "FHP" written in black marker. "HAWKES & SON, DENMARK(?) ST LONDON W(?) (PICCADILLY(?)).
B — 1 inch by 2.5 inches by 1 inch silver metal mouthpiece cover. Cover slips over mouthpiece and has notched area on one side approximately .5 inches by 1.33 inches. There are small grooves at top, middle, and end. Rounded head.
C — 13.5 inches by 1.5 inches dark wood with gold—colored metal (brass(?) mouthpiece and upper body section, has wooden reed attached. Three areas where screw closures are used, eight different keys, 16 holes, has "male" cork end that fits into hollow body.
D — 10.5 inches by 1.33 inches body of clarinet, both ends open to attach other parts, five keys, 10 holes, one female end , one cork male end. Hollow. Maker's name in oval "CRAMPON & CO. BUFFET)
E — 4 inches by 3.5 inches bell has small band of brass at both ends, flares out at bottom, female end at opposite, hollow.
F— Nine wooden reeds.
G — 51 used pads. Eight small metal "tools" for pads.
Notes:
Clarinet case was for another clarinet (Hawkes) but Mr Pearce apparently always used it for this Buffet clarinet.
