Stone maul or tool
Description:
Stone tool in a cylindrical form with a conical top, slightly wider at the base. Tool is ground smooth over all surfaces, peck marks on basal end.
Notes:
Found on July 25, 2006 by the Juneau Ranger District Fire Crew during fire suppression activities in the area of the Peterson Creek Shell Midden, a known archaeological site. The Inadvertent Discovery report was included in documentation file. Local native groups were notified when it came to the Museum. See file. May have been used for food processing or for woodworking, depending on the source referred to. Again, see file.
