Black and white photographic print of five men working on an engine. On the engine the word "Packard" is visible. The men are lowering the engine into place. The man at the center of the image behind and mostly blocked by the engine has his left fist closed with his thumb pointing down. There is one man to his right wearing a white hat. Only the hands and arms of the three men in the foreground are visible. Image has a white border around all four sides. Back has two sections of black paper and tape where the photograph was once attached to an album page. One location in the upper proper left corner and one in the lower proper right corner. There is a circular stamp located on the back of the image with text reading: "PASSED BY US BASE 1733 ARMY EXAMINER".
Notes:
The US AFF P—510 was an emergency rescue boat in the Aleutians during WWII. 11th Air Force bombed Kiril Islands of Northern Japan in 1943—1945. The 10th Emergency Rescue Boat was assigned to them to recover air crews ditched at sea. The P—510 was built in 1944 by Fellows and Stuart in Wilmington, California with two 1500 HP Packard Engines. It was 85 feet long. Its official description was an Offshore Rescue Boat stationed at Attu.
