Description:
A is album page. B—G are black and white photographs. All photos horizontally oriented unless otherwise noted.

A — Black paper album page with two holes proper right side, five photos affixed to front. Printed in white ink: "Federal School / Begun early February 1941 / East End" as well as dates/captions for most photos. On reverse: one photo loose, two missing. "Paul" printed in white ink, lower proper right corner, next to number "2" handwritten in pencil. Dates/captions detailed below, except for caption "@ 1922" which appeared below a currently missing photo on back of page.

B — Photograph (3.0 inches by 4.25 inches ), vertical orientation, Native Village. View toward Douglas Island, showing buildings outside the Village. Similar view as 2004.58.002C; many of the same houses (white house with ladder on roof, central proper left edge, is same as house in lower proper left quadrant of 2004.58.002C). Two black lines angled across upper proper left corner.

C — Photograph (3.0 inches by 4.25 inches ), buildings in Village clustered around central open space, school building in lower proper right. Willoughby Ave. visible in upper proper right corner with one car and one truck (possibly school bus, possibly parked, since it appears in same position in several other photos of this area) on street; car is passing in front of old ANB Hall (w/curved roof). Top of swingset and two basketball hoops (?) in open area next to school building. Caption below photo reads "Federal School".

D — Photograph (3 x 4.25"), similar view as two previous images; old ANB Hall now appears in center of top edge of photo. Street, sidewalk, and rail located on hillside above buildings visible in foreground of image. Caption above photo reads "ANB Hall".

E — Photograph (3.5 x 4.25"), another view of open area & "playground" next to Federal School, angled to show small street winding through houses and curving, in foreground, toward proper right side to intersect with Willoughby Ave. ANB Hall at center of proper right edge; school building in lower proper right corner. Two white houses face ANB Hall across Willoughby; pile of logs behind house closest to photographer. Numerous buildings outside of Village visible in background. Caption below photo reads "Village Street".

F — Photograph (3.5 x 4.25"), almost identical angle and scale as C; entire side of school building is clearly visible. Several people walking across field of photograph: one near center of image heading toward proper right side, one in upper proper left quadrant facing top of image, and at least two in front of buildings at top central edge of clearing. Caption below photo reads "Playground".

G — Photograph, 2.75 x 1.75" (loose from album). Aerial view of downtown Juneau looking south, with Channel and Douglas Island in background. "Gastineau Channel, Juneau, Alaska" printed in black in upper proper right corner. Caption under place where photo was originally affixed reads "1925".
Notes:
A) Grade school was a primary school through the 8th grade. Students included: Emma Olsen, Marie Olson (note different spellings), Eunice Akagi, Dorothy Wallace, and Martha Jacobs. (Many of these are married names...)

B) Karl Nelson and Judy Franklet say lower left house was Rosy and John Wilson, Jr in the smaller house, parents Olga and John in Hoonah

C) Karl Nelson and Judy Franklet say Lilliam Collier has the house in the upper left.

D) ANB hall was floated over from Douglas. Ed Kunz Sr. was part of that event. This was not the very first ANB hall, there was one before it. The ANB Hall in this photo fell down from rotten pilings. The old Presbyterian Church seen in several of these photos was then moved...brought forward up to the edge of Willoughby it seems, and became the new ANB Hall. Karl Nelson and Judy Franklet say it had a basketball court and interior balcony around it.
