Black and white photograph of the raising of the American flag for the opening of the Baranof Hotel. A group of boy scouts, girl scouts, and naval cadets are seen gathered on the ledge of the Baranof Hotel above the front entrance. There are two men seen in the photo playing the trumpet as the flag is being raised. The sign reading "The Baranof" is seen below the flag posts. The ground floor is seen below the ledge and five floors of the hotel are seen above it. On the proper left of the photo, another building is seen next to the Baranof. A white border surrounds the photograph. On the bottom right corner of the border is the printed text "Roger Dudley \ SEATTLE"
