Black and white photographic print of the stern of a ship. An overturned liferaft, air tanks and rope are all visible on the deck of the ship. White text on the stern's hull reads: P 510". Snow covered mountain is seen in the background. A four—post wooded pillar is extending from the water behind the boat. The shadows of two men are also seen on the hull of the ship. Image has a white boarder around all four sides.There is a circular stamp located on the back of the image with text reading: "PASSED BY US BASE 1733 ARMY EXAMINER".
Notes:
The US AFF P—510 was an emergency rescue boat in the Aleutians during WWII. 11th Air Force bombed Kiril Islands of Northern Japan in 1943—1945. The 10th Emergency Rescue Boat was assigned to them to recover air crews ditched at sea. The P—510 was built in 1944 by Fellows and Stuart in Wilmington, California with two 1500 HP Packard Engines. It was 85 feet long. Its official description was an Offshore Rescue Boat stationed at Attu.
