Description:
Black and white photograph of a ship pulled up on to a sand bar. The ship is viewed from directly in front of its bow. It is located at the center of the image. Due to its beached status the whole hull is visible. On the proper right side there is a life boat hanging about half way down the ship's hull. On the proper left side there are two life boats fully lowered on to the sand bar. Standing in the foreground are two people. On the proper right is a man. He is wearing a jacket, pants, and boots. He has a pair of binoculars hanging around his neck. He is starting to bald. On the proper left is a boy (approximate age 8—10). He is standing with his hands on his waist. He is wearing pants with suspenders and a long sleeved shirt. They are both standing in an area of very shallow water (covers part of their feet) that separates them from the boat. Both are being reflected in the water. Water and mountains with snow in the background. In the lower proper right corner is white hand written text reading: "S.S. Northwestern ashore at Eagle River, Alaska. 72533". In the lower proper left corner is white handwritten text reading: "W—P Co\ Juneau. The "o" of the "Co" is with in the curve of the "C".
