Black and white photographic print of a ship docked at a wooden dock. Ropes are visible in the foreground. A landmass is visible in the background. The boat is a military ship and has a roped fence around the bow's deck. On the side of the boat's cabin the text: "US AAF \ P510" is visible. Next to the text is a life preserver. An American flag hangs from the instrument mast at the center of the ship. Image has a white boarder around all four sides. Back has two sections of black paper and tape where the photograph was once attached to an album page. One at approximately center and along the lower upper at approximately center. There is handwritten text in black ink in the upper proper right corner which reads: "32". The number is written sideways.
Notes:
The US AFF P—510 was an emergency rescue boat in the Aleutians during WWII. 11th Air Force bombed Kiril Islands of Northern Japan in 1943—1945. The 10th Emergency Rescue Boat was assigned to them to recover air crews ditched at sea. The P—510 was built in 1944 by Fellows and Stuart in Wilmington, California with two 1500 HP Packard Engines. It was 85 feet long. Its official description was an Offshore Rescue Boat stationed at Attu.
