Description:
A photographic slide in a small cardboard frame (off white with red rear text "Color Transparency" and front logo for Perfect Photo, Inc.). The frame is labeled "Raft Races from Rock Dump 7—6—68" in handwriting. The image shows a westward looking view of the Gastineau Channel and Douglas Island captured at a flat angle from the rock dump south of downtown, the portion of landfill made by ore tailings. Douglas Island and its mountains extend along the background, with the settlement of Douglas proper at the mountains' feet. An airplane is flying low from the left side of the image. On the water near the far shore, there are some tiny vessels visible, presumably the raft, with minimal wake trailing behind them. The number "16" is printed in ink on the frame at the lower right, and the text "JUL 68" is etched on the lower edge, possibly signifying the date of development.
