Title:
"Eskimo Mother and Child" Black and White Photograph
Photographer:
Belcher, Fred
Description:
Black and white photographic print of a woman and child. The upper third of the photo is black, the middle third contains the woman's face on the proper left and the child's face on the proper right. The woman is looking down or has her eyes closed, and the child's eyes are visibly open. The lower third of the picture shows fur. Print has four straight, cut edges. White, slightly ragged edges visible. The print is mounted on a grey textured surface, which is surround by a smooth white border. Grey area is approximately .25 inches and white area is approximately. 1 inch wide. The white border appears to be covering a yellowed matboard, which is sunk in a 24 inch (Height) x 20 inch (Width) white vertically hinged window mat. The outer mat has 2 inch wide pieces of the white matboard in which the inside mat fits. Two strips of white mat run the length of the side edges and two strips connect in between, so the seams are vertical at the corners of the inside mat. Whitish tape is diagonally placed across the corners of the inside mat connecting it to the strips of white outer mat. Outer mat appears to be 4 ply, with a double layer of this on the in areas where the strips are on top of a solid back piece. Window has two pencil lines on the reverse at each corner and is hinged with three approximately 5 inch strips of what appears to be the same white tape used to keep the matboards together. The white border around the grey mounting appears to be the same texture as the white tape as well.

Nothing on reverse of mat.
