Description:
Black and white photographic print of a man climbing out of a cargo area in a ship's deck. Covered cargo is located behind him. A coil of rope is seen on the deck in the background. Rope and a platform are in front of the man. Only the man's head, upper torso and hands are visible. He is wearing a hat and his overalls have the name "PETE" over the left breast. A container on the deck to his right. The lower proper right corner is obscured, possibly by the photographer's finger. Image has a white boarder around all four sides.There is a circular stamp located on the back of the image with text reading: "PASSED BY US BASE 1733 ARMY EXAMINER". There are two pieces of black paper and tape on the back of the print from where the print was one attached to an album page. One is located in the upper proper left corner and one in the lower proper right corner.
Notes:
The US AFF P—510 was an emergency rescue boat in the Aleutians during WWII. 11th Air Force bombed Kiril Islands of Northern Japan in 1943—1945. The 10th Emergency Rescue Boat was assigned to them to recover air crews ditched at sea. The P—510 was built in 1944 by Fellows and Stuart in Wilmington, California with two 1500 HP Packard Engines. It was 85 feet long. Its official description was an Offshore Rescue Boat stationed at Attu.
