Perseverance—Ground Hog Outcrop, Alaska Juneau Pit 019A
An early view of the placer pit is seen in the foreground. In the background are the buildings of the Perseverance mine camp. The first major road built in Alaska reached this camp in 1889, now known as the Perseverance Trail. The mine changed owners several times and in 1911 the newly formed Alaska Gastineau Mining Company took over ownership by merging with the Perseverance. Bart Thane eventually took over the company.
