A — Sepia toned photo of tug "Trojan" pushing empty self dumping (rock) barge of AJ Mine in the Gastineau Channel. In background is Douglas Island. Very small amount of snow is clinging to tallest mountains. Written on back is history of the "Trojan"
B — 2 7/8" x 2 1/2" negative

Glenn & Florence were a pioneer family. Glenn worked for Treadwell & AJ Mining companies. See 94.24 Doc file for additional info.article in Sept. 1936 Engineering and Mining Journal with these photos in file.
The "Trojan" was built in Seattle area for the AJ Mine Co & brought north in 1932. Captain was Larry McKechnie. The vessel was sold to Foss & Barge early 1950's & renamed "David Foss" — to be used in Puget Sound.
Self dumping barges were used to dispose of waste rock from the mine. Waste rock was from drilling tunnels — not from mining.
